Beautification

Spring Clean-up was done May 10th. Andrew Cunha, an aspiring Eagle Scout and Lake Braddock student planted perennials and mulched a newly created bed behind the temporary buildings on the blacktop.  Thanks to all who came out and helped. Questions? Contact Virginia Kost.

Enrichment
The Enrichment Committee brings 5th and 6th graders the Brown Bag Lunch Program. Speakers discuss careers, interests and hobbies with the students during lunch. Click here for more information about the program and pictures of the luncheon speakers!

Membership:  Open to students in Grades 2-6

Meetings:  Thursday afternoons, from 3:45pm - 5pm, in the cafeteria

Cost/Fall Session:  $67 for approximately 15 meetings (October 2 through January 29)

WATCH D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students) is a program to help kids be positively impacted by fathers/father-figures. Questions? Contact James Koontz at watchdogs@verizon.net or see the February Acorn.    
Odyssey of the Mind
Four White Oaks teams competed in a regional competition on March 15. The 4th Grade GT team won first place in the region and represented White Oaks in the State Tournament April 5th.  Questions? Contact Grace Reef at reefgreen@cs.com.

Champions for Children

Cell Phone & Ink Cartridge Recycling   
Help the environment and the PTA at the same time by recycling old cell phones and ink cartridges. Put the items in a plastic bag and deposit in the collection box in the lobby. Click on the links below for lists of cell phones and ink cartridges that are accepted:

Legislation Program

Social, political, and environmental changes profoundly affect children. PTA volunteers use their knowledge and experience to advocate for better living conditions for children and their families. Through the National and State PTA Legislation Programs, you can help support legislation that will improve the lives of children.
 
Legislation Committee
The Legislation Committee coordinates the development of the Virginia PTA Legislation Program; provides the latest information on pending legislation dealing with issues of concern; and directs advocacy efforts to pass or defeat legislation a directed by the Legislation Program approved by local unites and convention resolutions.

Multicultural

The Multicultural Committee hosted Dessert Night on March 7 from 7 to 9:30 pm. Attendees were encouraged to showcase their culture by bringing a finger food, dressing and/or showcasing a talent which is native to their culture. 

 Reflections

Look for information to come home on the annual Reflections competition. Categories include film/video production, dance/choreography, photography, visual arts, literature, and musical composition.  Congratulations to these White Oaks students competed on the district level last year.
